Sociopolis Seminar

MoISA researchers are active contributors to the Sociopolis group, which brings together researchers in sociology, anthropology, geography and political sciences from across the Agropolis scientific community. This seminar focuses on issues pertaining to agriculture, food, environment and development.

Objective

Organizing workshops during which researchers compare their recent research results, discuss a specific researcher’s work or present a book.

Functional details

This group meets several times a year, and has an information mailing list that enables researchers involved in the collective to exchange, disseminate and publicize recent publications, share an opinion or seek advice.

Power and Scarcity in the American Southwest” published in 2020 by Routledge. Discussion moderated by Sylvain Barone (INRAE, G-EAU) and Pierre-Louis Mayaux (CIRAD, G-EAU).

- January 18, 2022: Conference-dialogue: “Let’s talk biomass instead of agriculture.” Today’s environmental challenges are forcing us to rethink the role of biomass as a source of energy and of materials for our societies. In a dialogue with Eric Malézieux (CIRAD, Hortsys joint research unit), Benoit Daviron (CIRAD, MoISA joint research unit), based on his book “Biomasse : une histoire de richesse et de puissance”, presents how the place of biomass has changed over the course of history, and the role played by international rivalries in this evolution.
