Teaching activities at MoISA are organized around two entities: Institut Agro and the University of Montpellier.

Teaching activities at Institut Agro 

Teaching at the Institut Agro is undertaken by the Department of Economic, Social and Management Sciences (SESG). MoISA joint research unit accounts for 2/3rds of the department’s 23 teacher-researchers and engineers (in association with Innovation, CEE-M and SENS joint research units). Courses are divided into 3 disciplines:

  • Management sciences: 11 teaching staff including 2 professors, 6 lecturers (including one HDR and one under contract, 1 ISPV, 2 research engineers),
  • Economics: 9 teaching staff including: 1 professor, 5 lecturers including one under contract, 1 IPEF and 2 design engineers,
  • Social sciences: 3 teaching staff including 1 professor, 1 HDR lecturer, 1 research engineer.

Members of the SESG Department are heavily involved in three of Institut Agro’s four research axis:

Axis 1 - Sustainable food systems

Management of natural resources (water, land, biodiversity), organization of food chains and systems (logistical efficiency, development of sustainability standards and alternative channels, access to quality food, health and food safety, etc.) and the factors driving sustainable consumption.

Axis 2 - Innovating and entrepreneurship

Management of innovation: support for innovation processes, understanding entrepreneurial activities, knowledge of actors and business sectors, etc.

  

 Axis 3 - Digital engineering

The Department contributes to the activities of the #DigitAG convergence institute through the growing participation of several members and the supervision of theses in this field. The MoISA Num@rg axis also includes 4 teacher-researchers from the Department.

 

Academic courses

M2 EcoDeva (Economics of agricultural development, environment and food)

Co-accredited by Institut Agro Montpellier, University of Montpellier and CIHEAM-IAMM, this Master’s is co-directed by Pasquale Lubello (teacher-researcher at Institut Agro Montpellier, member of MoISA joint research unit), Myriam Kessari (CIHEAM-IAMM, member of MoISA joint research unit) and Antoine Pietri (teacher-researcher at University of Montpellier, member of CEE-M joint research unit). Emmanuelle Bouquet (CIRAD, member of MoISA joint research unit) is also part of the Master’s management team.

EcoDEVA is a program conducted by researchers that enables students to acquire theoretical and methodological knowledge applied to agricultural and agri-food development, food and the management of natural and environmental resources.

M2 Engineer Agro: Agro-Managers

Led by Lucie Sirieix and Louis-Antoine Saïsset (teacher-researchers at Institut Agro Montpellier, members of MoISA joint research unit), this 3rd year option trains engineers specializing in the functioning of food systems (production, consumption, distribution, etc.) in connection with “life sciences and industries” and bio-technologies or bio-competence.

M2 Engineer: Specialized Master's® IPAD (Innovations and policies for sustainable food)

Under the responsibility of Stéphane Fournier (teacher-researcher at Institut Agro Montpellier, member of Innovation joint research unit) and Nicolas Bricas (CIRAD researcher, member of MoISA joint research unit), the course provides the keys to understanding the complexity, diversity and recent changes in food systems, and to provide knowledge and skills on “innovation frontiers.”

Teaching activities at the University of Montpellier

Academic training: Master's in Nutrition

The Master’s in Nutrition and Food Science (NSA) at the University of Montpellier is part of the Faculty of Pharmacy. After a common first year, teaching in the 2nd year is organized around 3 courses:

  • Food safety (SSA): executives in companies, public bodies (ANSES, etc.)
  • International nutrition (NI): executives in companies, NGOs, research oriented towards developing countries
  • Nutrition and food supplements (NCA): orientation towards careers in nutrition research and companies in the food supplements sector
