Recruitment of a Research Fellow/Postdoc Scientist in Agri-Food Economics and Business

The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier (CIHEAM Montpellier) looking for a talented and dedicated research fellow/postdoc scientist to join the Mediterranean PRIMA project DIONYSUS on the following topic: “Co-design WEFE-Nexus adaptation solutions & sustainable business models”.

The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier (CIHEAM Montpellier), one of the four institutes of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), is an intergovernmental organization whose mission is the development of higher education and lifelong learning, research and cooperation in the Mediterranean area. Within the scope of the DIONYSUS project, CIHEAM Montpellier offers a position of a Research Fellow/Postdoc Scientist.

We are looking for a talented and dedicated research fellow/postdoc scientist to join the Mediterranean PRIMA project DIONYSUS with the aim of coordinating the co-development and implementation of operational adaptation solutions, their related sustainable business models, and integrated policy options on WEFE1-vulnerable key agricultural productions in Egypt, Greece, Morocco, and Italy.

The DIONYSUS Project “Operational adaptation Nexus-based systems solutions in Mediterranean”
DIONYSUS is a PRIMA Project (Section 1) whose objective is to co-design, test and develop operational adaptation solutions and sustainable market solutions via innovative business-based models for the efficient and sustainable use of water-energy-food-ecosystem resources, that rely on local and regional initiatives, bring together and engage local and international stakeholders, and use a Cross-Sectoral Nexus adaptation tool for a transition to a Green Economy and Sustainable Development.

Role

The Research Fellow/Postdoc Scientist will develop the methodological approach for the coordination of participatory activities (Living Lab approach) aimed at the co-development and implementation of operational adaptation solutions and their related sustainable business models. The Research Fellow/Postdoc Scientist will also guide the identification and adaptation of new business models building on strategic management, innovation management and agri-food economics approaches. She/he will adapt and integrate the data and information retrieved in order to inform policy options on WEFE-vulnerable key agricultural productions.

Activities and Tasks

- Coordinate the development of a roadmap to drive the DIONYSUS living labs across demonstration sites of WEFE adaptation solutions and new sustainable business models
- Organize and run trainings for participatory activities for demonstration sites
- Develop and manage monitoring of the living labs activities
- Coordinate the implementation of demonstration sites through the living lab methodology, providing partners with guidelines, feedback on the implemented activities and reporting results from demonstration activities
- Assess strategies, policies and innovative sustainable business models coming from demonstration sites
- Retrieve, analyze et valorize data and results
- Write project reports and scientific articles with team colleagues.

Requirements

The Research Fellow/Postdoc Scientist candidate must meet the following requirements:
- PhD in Economics, Agri-Food Economics, Management, Social Sciences applied to food systems (or MSc with relevant professional or academic experience)
- Skills in transdisciplinary approaches and living lab approach
- Knowledge on agri-food value chain organization and business models
- Skills in integrating qualitative and quantitative methodologies
- Skills in writing and publishing scientific articles
- Fluency in spoken and written English

Personal Skills Required

• Excellent organizational skills;
• Dynamism, reactivity and autonomy;
• Skills of writing and synthesis (work plans, technical reports, ordinary correspondence, notes, messages, summary sheets);
• Good teamwork abilities, particularly in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary context;
• Interest for interaction with other tasks, partners and other projects of the research team.

Job Specifications

• Contract duration: 36 months
• Full-time: 37,5 hours/week
• 8 weeks/year holidays
• Salary: according to experience (2300-2700 gross salary, including supplementary health insurance)
• Location: Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Montpellier (3191, Route de Mende, Montpellier, France) with occasional travels in Mediterranean and European countries
• This job offer is subject to Grant Agreement to be signed shortly.
